Chronicle of a Sunday in Columbia

If there is something that I consider sacred in my weekend is to sleep. I like sleeping until my body wants it, without alarms to wake me up, and usually it does not want it before 11:30 a.m. and any date is conditioned to this. But sometimes, I make an exception, like last sunday. This is the chronicle of a sunday in Columbia, an idea to enjoy, either sharing or living it alone.

9:30a.m. Wake up, wake up! At this time is not too much sacrifice. Go to the bathroom, dress comfortable!

10a.m. Take your bike and ride. On sunday there are not public buses, so this is a good alternative, healthy for you and healthy for the Earth. If you cannot do this without eating, just drink a natural juice before going out because you need space in your stomach for the next.

10:30a.m. Breakfast at Earnie's. When I discovered this place, I could see the representative image of the northamerican caffe that I received from movies. When I stay here I can feel myself inside of a 60's movie. With a complete plate you could also spend the entire day without lunch. A lot of times, you must share a table with unknown people, but far from feeling uncomfortable you could enjoy more and talk with them.

11:30a.m. Walk down the downtown. There are some few shops opened where you can browse or buy something that you need. I recommend you to visit two places:

    1. Peace Nook, a non-profit, volunteer-based community resource center operated by the organization Peaceworks. It is an information and social change activism referral center and a storefront offering books, music, environmental products, posters, jewelry, T-shirts, natural foods and much more.
    2. Acorn Books, a bookshop completey full up of new and used books.

1p.m. Time for your bike again. But now leave the city, forget the buildings and go to The Katy Trail, with a more natural landscape.

2p.m. Come back home. I think you will be hungry after so much movement. What can you take?

    • Sandwich: make a fast cream of blue cheese (you can find one really good in the shop Campus Eastern Food, 40B B Locust St., Columbia). In a hot pot, mix a small piece of this cheese with 2 tablespoons of fat-free milk, and one teaspoon of mustard. Put the sauce in the sandwich bread, add some poppy seeds and put it on baby lettuces.
    • Drink: A glass of orange juice with a little of cream and brown sugar.

3p.m. Read. If you don't know what... I recommend you "Memoirs of an Indian Woman", by Shudha Mazumdar.

4p.m. Take a special bath. Water is therapeutic, relaxing and healthy. Consider it as a luxury and feel you happy and fortunate if you can do this. Don't abuse of this act, because the Earth is suffering desertization and there are around one million people who have not acces to potable water. You can add your favorite essential oil, or a homemade infusion.

    Quién es Yo?

This is a bilingual -Spanish and English- space to set free creativeness and uphold communication. It is the negation of the maxim that recommends people to be conformist and quiet: "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil". See, hear and speak with me! Laura R. C. Columbia MO (USA).
